Whois Privacy Protection, at times also called Privacy or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the authentic contact details of domain owners on WHOIS websites. Without this service, the personal name, home address and email account of any domain owner will be publicly visible. Giving fake info upon registration or altering the real info afterwards will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their ownership of the domain name. The policies approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS details must be correct and accurate at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was launched by registrars as a response to the growing concerns about possible identity theft. If the protection service is enabled, the domain name registrar’s contact details will be displayed instead of the client’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domains support the Whois Privacy Protection service, although there are some country-code ones that do not.
